Google Adsense is a program that allows web publishers to partner with Google and earn additional income. When someone joins the program, they allow Google to place ads on their website or blog, and based upon the ad that is shown, they will either get paid for a certain number of ad impressions or when one of their visitors clicks on these ads.

Google uses their technology to “read” the content on the pages the web publisher is allowing them to place ads on. This increases the chances of the ad being relevant to the topic of that particular web page or blog entry, which also increases the chance of a reader clicking on that ad.

While Google does have the final say in which ads appear on which pages, the web publisher is the one that decides how they will look and where they will go. Adsense users can choose from several styles of ads, including links only as well as full ads with text and even ads with pictures.

In addition to choosing which type of ad, a user can choose from many sizes and shapes of ad boxes, also known as ad units. In the final step, the user gets to fully customize the color of the ad units, including the borders, links and text.

In recent months, Adsense users have been allowed to publish ads on their site in a whole new way with Adsense embedded YouTube players. Many web publishers are actively placing videos on their sites and blogs to help grab their visitors’ attention and add interest to their site. Now these web publishers can earn additional income for it, too.

The actual amount of income a person earns through Adsense has many variables. Since a person generates income through the amount of clicks they are receiving or the amount of people who are viewing the ad, a website owner with a large amount of traffic has the potential to earn a considerably greater amount of money.

There are, in fact, a number of people who are earning large sums of money with the Adsense program, but they are few and far between. To many website owners, Adsense is only an additional stream of income. Simply joining the Adsense program is not a guarantee of future income, it is only a possibility of future income.

Adsense does provide tools for their users to help them maximize their earning potential. One of these is called a channel. This allows the user to create different styles of ad units and place them on different pages of their site in order to track the results. This can tell the user which shapes and sizes of ads, as well as what type of content, induces the highest amount of earnings.

For web publishers looking to earn an additional stream of income, Adsense can be a great way to accomplish that.

High click-thru rates net greater income for Google Adsense users. Improving the CTR of a website will result in increased revenue. There are several simple steps webmasters can take to accomplish this.

First, determine the current CTR. The formula for this is to divide the number of click-thrus by the total number of views. If, out of 1,000 impressions, the ad is clicked 10 times, the CTR is 1 percent. Record this statistic for later comparison.

Next, test the website to determine which keywords are used most often. A free tool is available at www.seobook.com to help with this task. The tool will also show how these keywords rank in Google. This is important information, because Google determines which ads will appear on the website based on keyword content. Modifications to content could result in placement of ads that hold more appeal for the audience of the website, which will lead to a higher CTR. Keywords should appear at least once per 80 to 100 words.

Pay attention to content. Text should be of high quality, and should be rich in relevant keywords. Content drives ad placement as well as traffic to the website, and both are necessary elements in healthy CTRs.

Enough cannot be said in this regard. Without quality content (and sufficient keyword frequency), viewers will not be directed to the website from the search engines. Further, better keyword occurrence results in a higher search engine ranking, and thus, more traffic. Visitors will return to the site if it offers interesting, well-written material. Consider hiring a content writer with SEO experience if either traffic or CTR is lower than desired.

Positioning of ads affects CTR. Try placing ads near the top of the page and near the left edge. This has been shown to result in more clicks. Adding white space around ads also increases CTR.

Webmasters have found that ads receive more clicks when they blend in with surrounding content. Adsense allows the size, shape, and color of ads to be altered to fit with the theme and appearance of the website. Remove borders, change the shape, and apply the website’s color scheme to the ads to enhance their appeal.

Limit the number of actions a viewer can take on each page. Many links provide many distractions – which are all reasons the viewer may do something other than click the ad. Consider limiting content to a single item per page, a navigation bar, and the ad. Viewers are more likely to take a desired action when they are not presented with too many options.

Increasing traffic, improving keywords and content, and paying attention to ad placement and appearance are simply steps toward increasing click-thrus.

Google’s Adsense program lets website owners generate income by allowing ads to be displayed on the site. Payment is made either per click or per thousand impressions. Ads that are displayed on the site are selected based on their relevance to the site, and this is determined by the frequency of keywords.

Volume of traffic on the site and click-thru rate both affect the amount of income that can be generated through Adsense. To improve income generated through Adsense, a number of steps may be beneficial:

• Focus on the quality of the website as a first step to increasing traffic. Adding solid content and keeping it fresh will give visitors a reason to keep coming back.

• Implement traffic-generating activities. Webmasters have found that activities such as emailing a weekly newsletter or offering a free item bring new and repeat visitors to the site.

• Optimize the website to ensure relevant keywords appear frequently on the pages of the site. Researching the term “search engine optimization” will provide a great deal of information on how to accomplish this.

• Test the website to determine which keywords are used most often and how these keywords rank in Google. One free tool for doing this can be found at tools.seobook.com/general/best-keywords. The site also offers a free keyword suggestion tool.

• Add the Google search box to the website if this hasn’t been done previously. When visitors use the Google search, the website’s Adsense ID is embedded in the search. The host website will be credited for any resulting click-thrus.

• Harmonize the appearance of ads with the website. Make sure that the colors of the ad text and background match those of the website so that regular content and ad links flow together smoothly. Ads that attract the highest number of clicks-thrus seem to blend in flawlessly with the content.

• Pay attention to where Adsense ads are placed. Research indicates that more click-thrus are received by ads near the top of the page and by those to the left of the page. White space surrounding the ad also improves its appeal.

Other factors that will affect Adsense income include the bid prices on the ads being displayed on the site and the amount of competition. Google’s Traffic Estimator Tool can help determine bid prices and AdWords click volume. The Keyword Tool shows how much competition exists for a given keyword. A website can improve its Adsense income by using different keywords, either to attract better-paying ads or to achieve a higher ranking with the search engines.

Internet marketing is an evolving environment that requires ongoing monitoring and testing in order to achieve success. By tracking the effectiveness of a websites Adsense program, webmasters can develop their sites to become increasingly effective and profitable.

Webmasters have experienced varying degrees of success with Google’s Adsense program. Those who report higher satisfaction with their Adsense income have learned to monitor the performance of their ads and make changes that increase click-thrus. Learning to test and track ads is an essential step in making the program work.

It is important first to determine how ads are performing by tracking clicks. The free Adsense tracker allows webmasters to collect statistics on clicks. The data shows up in the stats soon after the webmaster inserts the specified java script into the website.

Watch the statistics and compare how ads are performing on each page of the website. If some pages achieve better results than others, evaluate the pages to determine what factors are shared by the high performers. Pay attention to quality of content, keywords, and graphic elements in order to understand what makes some pages work effectively. Then incorporate these ideas into the less successful pages. Again, track the statistics to test whether these changes are effective.

One of the attractive features of Adsense is that webmasters can control the entire appearance of the ad. Many website owners have found that changing the shape, size, and color of their ads has increased click-thrus. If the click rate remains unsatisfactory after reviewing page quality, it may be beneficial to develop new ad designs.

Ads that work best for most websites are those that blend in with content. Create different ad layouts that mesh with the theme of the site. Test each of these designs by tracking click rates to discover which are most effective in compelling visitors to click thru.

Testing and tracking is also important in determining the effectiveness of a website’s search engine optimization efforts. Keyword ranking is critical. However, so is competition. Using the highest-ranked keywords does not necessarily lead to more traffic if a great deal of competition exists. Niche keywords are also highly ranked words that are less frequently used by the competitors. Using niche keywords has the effect of targeting a more focused market, which theoretically should eliminate some of the competition, as well as attract visitors who are more likely to have an interest in the Adsense links that are displayed. Niche keywords result in higher Adsense profit than more competitive keywords.

Try searching SEO or niche keywords to find a free tool (or a paid service provider, if a budget exists for this type of assistance) that will list the CPC for specific keywords and help create niche keywords for the website. Then, track statistics on page views and click-thrus to see if the new keywords bring more traffic and generate more Adsense income.

Tracking statistics and testing different approaches is the key to success with Adsense.

Many websites that provide information on internet marketing stress the importance of adding Google Adsense to a website, while other internet marketing gurus caution against it. With so many conflicting opinions, it can be hard to figure out what to do.

Google Adsense is a program that allows website owners and bloggers to earn money by allowing Google to place ads on their websites and blogs. When a person signs up for Adsense, they create the shape and colors of the ads.

When satisfied with the display, the website owner clicks a button and the Google Adsense program generates some HTML program that the website owner places on their site. Google is then able to read the content of these sites and blogs and insert ads related to the content. When someone visiting the site clicks on these ads, the website owner receives a credit to their account.

The exact amount a person earns per click will vary depending on what ad the visitor clicked on. Once the credit balance has reached $100, the website owner can ask for the funds to be sent to them.

Some people are claiming to make a very large income with Adsense, but the majority of people do not make that much. However, it can be a small additional income stream that you do not have to work any extra hours to earn.

It is important to note that Google decides what ads are shown and the order in which they appear. While it is not their intention to put anything explicit or distasteful on your site, you still do not have much say in what appears and what doesn’t. If you don’t agree with this, your only option is to decline to participate in the program.

Whenever a website owner chooses to display ads on their site, they are giving their visitors an invitation to leave the site. For people who participate in a lot of affiliate marketing or sell many of their own products and do not want to distract their readers’ attention, putting up Adsense may not be the best idea.

As we mentioned earlier, various internet marketing gurus will have different opinions on whether a person should put up Adsense. While each side has their own strong points, the ultimate decision is a very personal choice.

This is when it is necessary for a website owner to try out different techniques and track them to see which method works out best for them.

Google Adsense is a program which offers website owners the chance to earn passive income through their website or blog. By participating in the program, the website owner allows Google to place ads on their website that are related to the content found on the site.

These ads are then seen by the website’s visitors and when one of them clicks on these ads, the website owner receives a commission. The amount received may also be based on how many times that ad was seen on a per-thousand-impressions basis.

While setting up an Adsense account is simple and easy to do, Adsense offers some tools for the website owners that are very advanced and can help the website owners generate higher profits.

In order to help the users know which ads are working the best for them and are generating the most income, Adsense allows the user to set up channels. This feature enables the Adsense user to assign a unique identifier either to a domain name, a specific URL, or even a particular type of ad unit.

When a website owner takes the time to decide what information means the most to them and then identify ways to track it, Google’s channel system can become an immediate and timely form of market research.

The user will be able to view reports that can suggest which type of ad boxes, colors, and more work best on pages featuring different content or even from different websites.

This information can be very helpful, especially if a website owner owns several websites, each catering to a different niche. Each niche may have different tastes. By identifying what type of Adsense ads attracts each type of target market, the website owner will be able to increase their Adsense revenue.

All of this testing and tracking can take some time to complete. It is possible to outsource this activity to a virtual assistant. Some VAs specialize in internet marketing; they may have a lot of experience in this field and can be a source of great information for you.

Of course, Google offers tutorials on how to make the most of channels and how website owners can maximize their profits by using them. Other tutorials can also be found on the web.

The final results won’t come in overnight, but over some time, a pattern can develop which will make it clear what type of ads attract the most users on each site.

There is a lot of hype among internet marketers about the income potential of Google’s Adsense program. While Adsense will not likely make anyone a millionaire overnight, the program does bring the potential for a healthy passive income. Webmasters who find it most successful are those who take the time to study trends and developments, test different approaches, track their results, and continue to develop their websites and the way they use Adsense.

Simply putting Adsense on a website will not likely generate any income for most webmasters. Income varies due to a number of factors.

• Number of visitors to the website. Sales has been called a numbers game, because the larger the pool of potential prospects, the greater the chance that a sale will be made. So it is with internet marketing. Adsense won’t work as a revenue generator unless there is significant traffic to the website.

Webmasters can make Adsense more successful by focusing on attracting more visitors to their sites. There are several ways to accomplish this. Improving content is critical, as visitors are more likely to view the site when it holds quality material. Market to the right people, and take every opportunity to give the website url exposure, such as adding it to the signature line of the webmaster’s email. Develop a mailing list, create a newsletter, offer a free item to encourage sign-ups, and publish a form on the website that allows visitors to request more information. This is all free advertising, which keeps viewers aware of the website and encourages new viewers to visit. The more of it that is done, the faster traffic will increase.

• Appeal of Adsense ads. Just as some print ads are more effective than others, so it is with website ads. Visitors won’t bother clicking if the ad holds no appeal due to its appearance or location.

Adsense allows webmasters to change the size, shape, and color of ads appearing on their sites. Make ads blend with the style and appearance of the website, so that ads and content flow together smoothly. Then, track the click thru rate on each new layout to determine which ones work best. Pay attention to position of the ads, too. Most clicks are received by ads near the top of the website and near the left edge of the page. Ads that are surrounded by white space also receive more clicks than those that are crowded together.

For many webmasters, income generated through the Adsense program is sufficient to cover hosting costs and other expenses associated with their websites. Making the program work requires knowledge, effort, and patience. The potential rewards make the effort worthwhile.

YouTube’s creation of video units offers webmasters a way to increase their Adsense earnings, while at the same time enhancing their websites.

Through this program, Adsense users can place a video unit on their website. The video unit is customizable, and can be modified to fit the color scheme and design of the website. Income is generated when viewers click on companion ads (either text or image) that are displayed at the top of the video unit, or text overlay ads that appear at the bottom of the video screen. Like the original Adsense ads, video unit advertising payment is based either on CPC or CPM.

Video content is obtained either by choosing content categories, individual content providers, or by accepting automatically target video – much the same as ads are automatically placed, based on the website’s keyword content.

Adding the video units, or widgets, to a website is simple. The webmaster copies and pastes code into the website. The Adsense help center offers step-by-step instructions to make the process easier. The Adsense blog also provides ongoing tips for managing video units and controlling the YouTube content that streams to the publisher’s website.

Industry analysts say there is a lot of potential here. With Google’s Adsense network already in place, merging that network with YouTube’s extensive video content catalog will change the face of online and video marketing. For publishers already using Adsense, this could mean significantly more income. Google will share revenue with both site owners and content providers.

According to reports, more than 100 content providers from YouTube are presently contributing video to the program.

Some publishers feels the potential is great, because video does attract a viewer’s attention. The program will be a “win-win” for website owners and advertisers, they say. The key will be in the relevance of the video feeds to the website.

“The better the match, the more profitable these video ads will be,” said one webmaster.

The concern among site owners seems to be solely based on the relevance of video feeds to site content. While it is still too early to tell whether Google will need to tweak the selection process, some users are reporting good matches so far. One user said search parameters are saved in the profile, which the webmaster can easily alter at any time. Only videos tagged with specific terms related to his content are shown, and any changes made to the profile are reflected in the videos served to his site.

Adsense recommends that website owners take care to provide highly focused, relevant keywords as a way to ensure the best possible match between site content and the video that is fed to the site.
